Help measure the sky

Host a node, write code, check the data or help find hosts where coverage is thin. Start by telling us roughly where you are and what you'd like to do.

Other ways to help

Everything is open source and developed in public.

Contribute code

The project has four parts, each with its own tests:

  • Edge: Python on the Jetson; capture, detection, filters, clips.
  • Server: Python; matching, triangulation, tracks, API.
  • Map: TypeScript and CesiumJS.
  • Website: this site, built with Astro.

Help analyse data

Tracks, sight lines, coverage and clips are available from the public, read-only API. Useful work includes:

  • Checking tracks against flight, satellite and balloon records.
  • Auditing the on-device filters for things they miss or wrongly remove.
  • Improving the error model, for example atmospheric refraction.

Outreach

Coverage depends on hosts in the right places. Rural landowners, astronomy clubs, schools and makerspaces are natural partners. Point them to this site and the coverage map, and please describe the project accurately: it measures, it doesn't claim.
